(中央社訊息服務20251104 17:09:33)The Yunlin Huanan Community Stone Terra Bookhouse, developed by the Yunlin County Government and the Huanan Community Development Association in Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, has won the Bronze prize at the 2025 Finnish Arch Design Award (ADA), demonstrating the international competitiveness of Taiwan's rural space revitalization and public design.

The Huanan Village Stone Terrace Book House won the Bronze Award in the 2025 Finnish Arch Design Award.

This project stems from a long-standing rural regeneration initiative by the Huanan community and the local Huanan Experimental Elementary School. To address issues such as population loss and industrial decline, the community and the county government collaborated through the "Community Planner Mentoring Program" to promote the restoration of stone terraces, industrial revitalization, and spatial regeneration. The award-winning Stone Terra Bookhouse is a key achievement of this initiative.

The library building integrates the existing symbiotic fields with unused sheds and a medicine dispensing pond. Local craftsmen constructed stonework barriers and incorporated user-friendly and universal design to revitalize the previously fragmented landscape. The interior design integrates multiple functions such as navigation, reading, and education, creating a new venue that connects local culture, history, and the future.

With the Stone Terra Bookhouse as a base, the Huanan Community integrates natural resources, agricultural landscapes, and recreational activities, promoting diverse business models such as guided tours and agricultural product promotion while showcasing the practical power of rural regeneration. This project not only restores traditional landscapes and revitalizes idle spaces, but also attracts young people to return to their hometown, achieving the dual goals of spatial sustainability and cultural preservation.

Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) stated that the county government has been promoting the Community Planner Mentoring Program for many years, dedicated to assisting local communities in bottom-up planning. This international award not only strengthens Yunlin's community development efforts but also showcases the beauty of Taiwan's rural areas on the international arena. Going forward, the county government will continue to support local communities in deepening their local presence, connecting culture, industry, and spatial innovation, and allowing more of Taiwan's rural stories to be seen globally.
