Creating 3ZERO Campuses: Planting the Seeds at Elementary School in Taichung
(中央社訊息服務20241227 18:20:12)The Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan is dedicated to promoting the 3ZERO vision of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus—Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Poverty, and Zero Unemployment. The foundation operates the Taichung Yunus Story House in the Guangfu Village of Wufeng, Taichung, which serves as a platform for promoting 3ZERO principles through community integration and local revitalization. In late November 2024, the Taichung Yunus Story House launched its first "3ZERO Campus" initiative at Fenggu Elementary School in Taichung City. The event aimed to introduce elementary school students to the concept of sustainability in a simple, engaging manner, fostering early adoption of 3ZERO principles and encouraging students to integrate positive values into their daily lives.
This "3ZERO Campus" event was co-organized by the Foundation and Fenggu Elementary School. All faculty and students participated during a school assembly. Through an SDG-themed picture book, the event focused on SDG 1: No Poverty, inspiring students to reflect on how to act when someone around them needs help. During the discussion, one student bravely shared their willingness to assist others within their means, earning a round of applause from the audience. The story encouraged students to recognize the power of individual action in driving social progress.
To further highlight the importance of a sustainable environment, the event featured a workshop led by 洪伶慈 from the 楓樹小學堂. Students learned about the environmental hazards of used cooking oil and witnessed its transformation into eco-friendly soap. This hands-on activity not only underscored the value of recycling resources but also demonstrated how waste could become a useful product. At the end of the event, the Foundation gifted 10 bottles of handcrafted soap made from recycled cooking oil to Fenggu Elementary students, reinforcing the importance of Zero Net Carbon Emissions.
Juno Wang, CEO of the Foundation, also shared the inspiring story of how Professor Yunus founded Grameen Bank to empower women in poverty through microcredit. She encouraged the children to dream boldly and believe in their ability to change the world. The event was supported by several esteemed guests, including Fenggu Elementary School Principal 錢德龍, Director of Counseling 許玉鳳, and Parents' Association Chairperson莊復凱. Through this lively and educational event, students deeply connected with the core principles of Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Poverty, and Zero Unemployment, bringing new perspectives to their campus life.
The "3ZERO Campus" initiative brought together the school, the Foundation, and local community resources, showcasing the impact of diverse collaboration. The Taichung Yunus Story House will continue organizing related activities to promote partnerships (SDG 17) and advance social goodwill and sustainable development.
