Youth Empowered with the "Yunus Spirit" through Learning Sustainable Entrepreneurship

(中央社訊息服務20241121 10:07:05)The Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan has established the Taichung Yunus Story House in Wufeng Guangfu Village, Taichung. This initiative combines regional revitalization and community inclusion to promote the 3ZERO vision—zero net carbon emissions, zero poverty, and zero unemployment—advocated by Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
In mid-October, the Taichung Yunus Story House collaborated with the Chang Show Jyu Social Welfare Foundation to engage youth in learning sustainable entrepreneurship and fostering savings habits. This partnership revitalizes historical military housing while amplifying social impact.

The Chang Show Jyu Social Welfare Foundation, founded to honor Ms. Chang Show Jyu’s compassionate legacy, has provided protection and guidance services to vulnerable children and youth for nearly two decades. Meanwhile, the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan, inspired by Professor Yunus’s Grameen Bank poverty alleviation model, continues to promote financial literacy and savings education.
Through this collaboration, the “Yunus Baby Boss” has been upgraded for youth, offering gamified lessons on financial management and sustainability. The curriculum encourages creativity, introduces diverse career pathways, and emphasizes hands-on learning.

The program featured financial literacy expert Tseng Ming-Teng, a recipient of the national SUPER Teacher Award and a homeroom teacher at Taichung Municipal Shuang-Wen Junior High School Tseng shared fundamental concepts of budgeting, saving, and financial planning, while cautioning students about investment and employment scams in today’s marketplace. For sustainability, Lin Yi-Chieh, founder of晴織雨舞手創生活 at the Taichung Yunus Story House, guided students in transforming discarded fabrics into reusable drawstring bags. This hands-on session introduced youth to entrepreneurship, sewing machine operations, and sustainability practices, fostering untapped potential.

Kuo Feng-Chuan, Deputy Director of the Chang Show Jyu Social Welfare Foundation, emphasized the importance of financial literacy and career readiness for youth. Philippa Tsai, President of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan, highlighted that learning entrepreneurship and financial management empowers young people, enabling them to tackle societal challenges and embrace the Yunus Spirit. Juno Wang, CEO of the Foundation, noted that Professor Yunus prioritized education through the Grameen Bank and that the foundation will continue to advocate for savings, financial literacy, environmental education, and youth entrepreneurship. This effort supports the creation of a 3ZERO world.

The Taichung Yunus Story House will continue hosting various activities to foster partnerships (SDG 17) and drive sustainable development. On November 30(Sat.), it will hold the YunusBaby Boss Market, inviting children to sell secondhand items from home, supporting the circular economy.
