Zhikaxuan Water Play Area Phase I Completed, Opens July 12 – Mayor Hsu Inspects for Safe, Fun Summer
(中央社訊息服務20250708 10:43:38)On July 3, Hualien County Mayor Hsu Chen-Wei, accompanied by Agriculture Department Director Chen Shu-Wen and other officials, visited the Zhikaxuan Water Play Area Renovation and Landscaping Project. The first phase of the project has been completed and is set to open for summer water activities on July 12. Mayor Hsu, together with the Agriculture Department and the construction team, conducted an on-site inspection to ensure everything is ready for the opening, aiming to provide a high-quality, comfortable water recreation destination for both locals and visitors. She also discussed the upcoming Phase II of the project, which will resume after the water play season ends.
To ensure uninterrupted summer fun for families, Mayor Hsu instructed the county team to carry out construction in phases while keeping water play areas open. This summer, the park will also feature two large inflatable water play structures, popular among children and parents alike. The 2025 Zhikaxuan summer water activities will be available from July 12 to August 24. Due to construction, this year's opening is slightly later than usual, and the County Government apologizes for any inconvenience. All are welcome to bring their swimsuits and plan a visit!
According to the Hualien County Government, some water facilities had exceeded their service lifespan. Therefore, funds were allocated to update the play equipment, renovate water areas, and improve the surrounding environment. The project is divided into two phases. With Phase I completed—including the installation of inflatable water play structures—Phase II will continue after August 24 and will involve upgrades such as new water play equipment, artificial turf, drainage systems, and rest areas.
Mayor Hsu noted that Zhikaxuan Park—originally envisioned by former County Mayor Fu Kun-Chi—has been consistently improved by the county team. Milestones include the completion of an 8-meter-high 360° waterslide and the first artificial wave pool in Eastern Taiwan in 2016, as well as the completion of five land-based recreation zones and inclusive playgrounds in 2023. This year, the county launched a full renovation of the parent-child water park facilities. The future vision includes more accessible and inclusive design features, allowing people of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities, to enjoy the water attractions safely. The combination of water play and inclusive equipment will make Zhikaxuan Green Forest Water Park a fun destination for both land and water activities, year-round.
During the inspection, Mayor Hsu closely reviewed paving quality, landscaping, safety of inflatable structures, comfort of pathways and turf, and drainage facilities. She also called for enhanced safety measures to prevent slips and falls, especially for children, and requested more shaded and rainproof areas to ensure a safe and comfortable water play environment for all.
