The University for Life & Peace (ULP) of Ling Jiou Mountain Buddhist Society (LJM) has successfully concluded its Winter School 2023, marking the fourth iteration of this project. Dozens of scholarly experts and research students showcased their group study findings under five themes: Artificial Intelligence, Global Citizen Awareness, The Human Factor - Identity & Motivation, Common Good Economy, and Leadership for Ecological Changes. The combination of ecological transformation and innovative technologies elicited numerous expressions of awe, while ensuing discussions generated sparks that illuminated the central theme of “Loving the Earth.”

An international and interdisciplinary assembly of elites coming together to pursue advancements in Ecology. The faculty lineup includes the presidents of Zeppelin University and the University of Passau in Germany, professors from the Maximilian University of Munich, the Berne University of Switzerland, the Peking University of China, and the Southern Cross University of Australia, alongside internationally acclaimed experts. The student body comprised graduate students from 12 countries including Germany, the UK, Italy, Russia, Turkey, Iran, China, Japan, Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. The participants represent a diverse array of academic disciplines, spanning medicine, engineering, design, clinical psychology, and more, forming a distinctive and noteworthy aspect of the School 2023.

LJM Founding Abbot Master Hsin Tao took dedicated time to participate online and carefully engage with the presentations of all study groups. “To care for the ecology is to appreciate lives of all forms,” said Master Hsin Tao during the wrap-up session of the School 2023. He encouraged everyone present to maintain enthusiasm about sustainability and to adopt a proactive mentality, aiming to become the gravitational center of their community. This involves turning back to spirituality as the origin of ecology to address its root causes.

The Master advises practicing daily meditation for tranquility as an approach to spiritual awakening, attempting to cultivate a sense of “oneness” with the ecology, recognizing that all forms of existence are interconnected in one way or another. The train of thought progresses from understanding the ecology, appreciating all sentient beings, reaching mid-way self-awakening, and ultimately contributing to a lasting state of bliss through harmonious sustainability.

The next challenge for all students will be inter-group cooperation for paper compilations. Their professors will be available to assist throughout this process. They bid farewell to one another online, acknowledging that their connection will endure both online and offline into the future.
