Love knows no boundaries and the notion fosters further the friendship between Taiwan and Myanmar. After overcoming the Covid-19 challenges, the Ling Jiou Mountain (LJM) Charity Foundation joins forces with the Taoyuan Municipal Hospital under the Ministry of Health as well as the WOH Medical Co. Ltd. in donating four portable ultra-sound scanners to the Myanmar Liver Foundation to help with its hepatitis program for the rural area. Taiwan’s representative to Myanmar, the honorable Chung-Hsing CHOU, was at hand at the presentation ceremony and he labels the occasion as a diplomatic paradigm in promoting Taiwan’s outbound medical missions for those in need.

Observing the spirit of compassion for all and respecting an inter-reliant symbiosis of the ecology as practiced by its Founding Abbot, Master Hsin Tao, the LJM Charity Foundation is dedicated to the cause of international disaster relief missions. Thus, it has continuously performed free clinics for medical services ranging from public healthcare to personal hygiene in Myanmar for many years running.

Hindered by the pandemic and political instability in Myanmar over the past 3 years, LJM’s long-term outreach mission for the country became much limited, and could only make deliveries of necessary material assistance with the help of local counterparts. Examples, the donation of two mission-critical ambulances for Covid-19 in May 2020, and cooperated with Myanmar’s NGO CPI (Community Partners International) saw the fundraising for the procurement of compressed oxygen tanks for medical ventilators and other PPEs for the under-privileged. Further, an MOU was inked with the Taoyuan Hospital to launch a working group by the name ‘Medical Programs Taiwan-Myanmar’, which aims at re-igniting all relevant services temporarily halted by the pandemic.

The donation ceremony took place in mid-September at Hotel H Valley in Yangon, Myanmar. The LJM Charity Foundation made the ceremonial donation to Khin Pyone Kyi, chairman of the Myanmar Liver Foundation. Taipei’s representative to Myanmar Chung-Hsing CHOU was present on the occasion to deliver a congratulatory message.
The ceremonial occasion also saw the signing of an LOA (Letter of Agreetment) between the Taoyuan Hospital and the Myanmar Liver Foundation, with deputy superintendent Wei-Jie WANG signing off on an initial funding of approximately US$2K to purchase hepatitis vaccine for local use to kick off following action plans that include sending medical crews in batches for advanced training in Taiwan.
