PoWR, an acronym for the Parliament of the World’s Religions, recently convened in Chicago, where its journey began. Master Hsin Tao, Founding Abbot of Taiwan’s Ling Jiou Mountain Buddhist Society (LJM) and Founder of the Museum of World Religions (MWR), delivered a message through a pre-recorded video presentation. He emphasized the importance of individuals reconnecting with their spirituality and effecting mindful changes in their daily lives. This collective awakening of humanity represents our last hope for securing mankind's ultimate survival, said the Master.
This global event brought together religious leaders, spiritual luminaries, scholars, and experts from around the world. Their purpose was to engage in profound discussions addressing critical global challenges, all guided by the theme of ‘A Call to Conscience: Defending Freedom & Human Rights’ for PoWR 2023. Master Hsin Tao's involvement with the PoWR began in 1999 when he received an invitation to participate in the third PoWR gathering. Since that initial engagement, he has remained a steadfast supporter and a regular attendee at PoWR conferences over the years.
Representing Master Hsin Tao at PoWR 2023 was Master Xian Yue, who currently heads the MWR Foundation. Her mission at the event was to promote Master Hsin Tao's concept of Spiritual Ecology and showcase the LJM's Peace Meditation practice. During a PoWR interview, Master Xian Yue conveyed the idea that PoWR serves as a unifying force, gathering love and positive energy from diverse sources. This collective energy is channeled towards addressing the current state of the world's religions and humanitarian conditions. He highlighted the efforts of the LJM delegation in advocating for a return to spirituality as a means to foster harmonious coexistence with nature, emphasizing the importance of this symbiotic relationship.
During the 3-day event, the MWR unveiled a theme pavilion featuring a scaled-down version of its special exhibition titled ‘Mountains, Ocean, and Sky - Nature in Me’. This pavilion was set up to showcase the LJM's perspective on the harmonious symbiosis between humanity and nature, as well as the core values of Life and Peace. The pavilion drew a substantial and enthusiastic crowd of visitors during all opening hours. A testament to the compelling message it conveyed.
To express his strong support for the LJM's participation in PoWR, Conference Chairperson Nitin Ajmera conducted an interview with the LJM exhibition poster. This interview served as a backdrop and a key visual, reinforcing the significance of the LJM's presence.
