TTM in Indonesia Announces New Projects at Anniversary Event

Titled “Carrying the Legacy Forward: A New Chapter for Technical Cooperation in Indonesia,” the event brought together Indonesian parliamentarians and officials from the National Food Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, and local governments to review nearly half a century of bilateral achievements. The program also highlighted results from two ongoing initiatives—the Production and Marketing of Garlic and Shallot Demonstration Project in North Sumatra and the Enhancement of Karawang Vegetable and Fruits Marketing System Project—underscoring the continued deepening of agricultural collaboration.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Bruce Chen-jung Hung of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia announced that, in support of President Prabowo Subianto’s food self-sufficiency agenda, Taiwan and Indonesia will launch two new cooperation projects in 2026 in South Sulawesi and West Java. The initiatives will focus on corn seed production as well as strengthening vegetable production and marketing systems. Ambassador Hung emphasized Taiwan’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Indonesia in agriculture, technology, education, and talent cultivation, adding that Taiwan remains a responsible and trustworthy partner in pursuing sustainability.
In his keynote address, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) delivered a speech titled “Carrying the Legacy Forward: The Impact of Cooperation between UNHAS and the Taiwan Technical Mission in South Sulawesi.” He reviewed the achievements of the TTM’s rice seed project in South Sulawesi and introduced the upcoming corn seed cooperation project, which he described as a new milestone in bilateral agricultural development.
The event also featured the TTM’s latest smart-agriculture applications, including field data monitoring systems and drone-assisted management technologies. During the afternoon session, representatives from the garlic and shallot project in North Sumatra and the Karawang vegetable and fruit marketing project presented updates on their work. Agricultural instructors and young farmer representatives shared how TTM support has contributed to local revitalization efforts—such as promoting innovative products like “okra coffee”—and discussed the practical needs of young farmers. Their insights highlighted Taiwan’s concrete contributions to Indonesia’s agricultural transformation and will help guide future TTM initiatives to better respond to local youth needs.
TaiwanICDF Deputy Secretary General Peifen Hsieh said the event showcased the dedication and long-term efforts of the TTM, while reaffirming the TaiwanICDF’s commitment to helping partner countries strengthen food security, boost agricultural productivity, and build sustainable industry models amid climate change and global agricultural challenges. She reiterated that the TaiwanICDF will continue upholding its core principle of professional cooperation and local co-creation, in line with the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project promoted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung.
