HL Invites Foreign Residents to Experience Indigenous Culture & Harvest Festival

發稿時間:2025/07/01 16:51:32

(中央社訊息服務20250701 16:51:32)In an effort to foster a more inclusive and globally friendly environment, the Hualien County Government will host “Mission: Tribal Hualien! A One-Day Indigenous Cultural Adventure” on Saturday, July 19. Foreign residents in Hualien are invited to step into the Taroko community, try their hand at making traditional banana cakes, experience Indigenous instruments and ancient chants, and join in the 2025 Pacific Austronesian Indigenous Joint Harvest Festival—a celebration that showcases Hualien’s warmth and vibrant cultural identity.

According to the County Government, Hualien is Taiwan’s most ethnically diverse region, home to the largest indigenous population in the country, as well as a growing number of international residents. As of the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior’s National Immigration Agency, over 8,000 foreign nationals currently reside in Hualien, making up 2% of the local population. This cultural adventure offers participants a deeper look into the Taroko community through guided village tours, hands-on workshops in traditional crafts, and intercultural dialogue sessions. Attendees from around the world will also be encouraged to share their cultural backgrounds and explore ways to build mutual understanding and cultural continuity in a diverse society. In the evening, the group will head to the highlight of the day: Hualien’s most iconic and beloved international celebration, the 2025 Pacific Austronesian Indigenous Joint Harvest Festival. There, they’ll enjoy live indigenous music and dance, and even join the crowd in the spirited festival dance, experiencing Hualien’s most authentic and unforgettable festival atmosphere.

The event will be fully documented through video and photography. In addition to capturing highlights of the day, each participant will receive two personal photos as keepsakes—special moments of cultural exchange and joyful connection with friends.

Through this initiative, Hualien aims to deepen cultural understanding among international residents and highlight its identity as a welcoming and inclusive global city. More than just a scenic destination, Hualien is proudly becoming a cultural hub where diversity is respected and global connections are formed.
