Kehl University Visits Hualien for the Second Consecutive Year, Praising the “Night Market King” Set Meal at Dongdamen Night Market

Led by former Vice President Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kegelmann and former Mayor of Maselheim, Elmar Braun, the 17-member delegation of faculty and students returned to Hualien for the second year in a row as part of their study tour. To provide them with an authentic taste of local culture, the Hualien County Government arranged for the visitors to enjoy the newly launched “Night Market King” set meal at the renowned Dongdamen Night Market, offering a firsthand experience of Taiwan’s vibrant night market culture and signature street food.

According to the Hualien County Government, this initiative aims to strengthen international exchanges, promote local culture, and showcase Hualien’s rich flavors along with Taiwan’s renowned hospitality. The “Night Market King” set meal was personally introduced to the delegation by Huang Chia-Ming, Chairperson of Dongdamen Night Market, who recently won the title on a popular food program. The meal featured authentic Hualien specialties, including indigenous bamboo rice, shell ginger rice, wild vegetables, and millet wine. As they savored these traditional delicacies, the German visitors immersed themselves in the lively atmosphere of Dongdamen, experiencing the unique charm of Hualien.

Prof. Kegelmann praised the meal, stating that all delegation members gave it a perfect 10 out of 10. Following dinner, the group joined in classic night market games such as balloon darts, air gun shooting, claw machines, and the latest trend—photo sticker booths—creating a fun-filled and energetic evening.

Founded in 1971, Kehl University specializes in training civil servants and is dedicated to advancing public administration through innovation and development. The university offers bachelor’s and master’s programs, with a strong emphasis on practical learning and international collaboration. It previously signed an MOU with National Dong Hwa University, providing students with diverse learning and internship opportunities.

The Hualien County Government emphasized that such international collaborations enhance Hualien’s global visibility and align with Magistrate Hsu’s vision of “Hualien going global, and the world coming to Hualien.” By welcoming more international guests, Hualien continues to showcase its beauty, promote its cultural heritage, and strengthen its presence in the global tourism industry.
