(中央社訊息服務20240508 16:49:21)The Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan (“the Foundation”) and the National Taiwan University (“NTU”) will co-organize the Global Initiatives Symposium in Taiwan (GIS Taiwan), which will be the largest international student forum in Taiwan, and it will be its 15th forum. Each year, the five-day forum brings together professional speakers from various fields and student representatives from around the world to discuss current international issues in English, fostering intellectual exchange. This year, The foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan was invited to be the co-organizer of the Forum, in the hope of achieving the "Zero Net Carbon Emission, Zero Poverty, and Zero Unemployment" vision through the promotion of social businesses, as well as nurturing more young talents with global vision and leadership.

This year, the forum will be held from 7/1(Mon)-7/5(Fri), with "Rebuild and Revive" as the annual theme. "Rebuild and Revive" means to throw off the reliance in the past, break the existing framework and reorganize the perception of the world, while maintaining the sensitivity to new things. The three sub-themes are "Artificial Intelligence", "Smart Cities" and "Sustainable Finance". Student representatives will be led by speakers and corporate mentors to gain a deeper understanding of the topics and finally produce a project, and the winning teams of each sub-theme will be selected by the co-operation of academics and industry judges.

Ms. Philippa Tsai, President of the Foundation said that the Foundation became a co-organizer of the Forum for the first time, and hoped that through this annual event, it would promote the 3-Zero vision of Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate of 2006 - "Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment" among the student representatives to create a sustainable future. Ms. Juno Wang, CEO of the Foundation, added that the Foundation strongly encourages students from the 14 universities where established Yunus Social Business Centres (YSBCs) to participate in the event and to engage in discussions and exchanges related to the theme of the year, and to come up with action plans to implement them.
