(中央社訊息服務20240508 16:23:36)Nanhua University was founded in 1993 under the initiative of Venerable Master Hsing Yun of the Fo Guang Shan University Consortium. It was the first university established by the Fo Guang Shan University Consortium in Taiwan and is renowned as a Buddhist university. Recently, upon the recommendation of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan, Dr. Tsong-Ming Lin, President (“President Lin”) of Nanhua University and Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate of 2006 and founder of the Yunus Centre in Bangladesh, officially signed a contract on May 4, 2024, to establish the Yunus Social Business Centre (“YSBC”). It is the 14th YSBC established in Taiwan, and the 108th YSBC in the world. In the future, Nanhua University will lead its faculty and students to engage internationally through the establishment of the YSBC, participating in workshops, forums, seminars related to social businesses, as well as joining events like Social Business Day and international academic conferences.

President Lin of Nanhua University also signed a cooperation agreement with President Philippa Tsai of the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan (“the Foundation”) and simultaneously signed a sponsorship cooperation agreement with Mr. Zhou Jun, Secretary of World Buddhism Union (“WBU”) in the United States. The YSBC of Nanhua University will receive five years of research funding from the WBU. Professor Muhammad Yunus, President Lin of Nanhua University, Mr. Zhou Jun, Secretary of WBU, and President Philippa Tsai of the Foundation all participated in the online signing ceremony via video conferencing. During Professor Yunus’ online remarks, he congratulated Nanhua University and emphasized the importance of promoting a "3-Zero World" - Zero carbon emissions, Zero poverty, and Zero unemployment.

President Philippa Tsai of the Foundation expressed her gratitude for the invitation to Nanhua University and the recognition of Professor Yunus' promotion of social business concepts on campus, leading to the establishment of the YSBC. We look forward to Nanhua University's innovative breakthroughs in academic achievements related to the "3-Zero world" mission and the establishment of 3ZERO Club among university students.

Ms. Juno Wang, CEO of the Foundation expressed her gratitude for the strong support from Mr. Zhou Jun, Secretary of the WBU, who acknowledges Professor Yunus' vision of "3-Zero World" and the concept of social business. They also look forward to continuing to expand the impact on students and society in collaboration with the university, moving towards a bright future. They hope that more universities will pay attention to the activities of the Foundation and YSBCs, bringing positive influence on society. The signing ceremony also invited Master Ming Yu, Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Association for Promoting Good Virtues, as a distinguished guest. The video conference concluded successfully with warm blessings.
