Taiwan Yunus Social Business Innovation Award spreads across campuses, inspiring the young generation to engage in social innovation
(中央社訊息服務20240510 16:25:55)The 4th Taiwan Yunus Social Business Innovation Award ("the award”) organized by the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan (“the Foundation”) is in full swing with its call for submissions. In April 2024, the foundation collaborated with Yunus Social Business Centres (YSBCs) at National Taichung University of Science and Technology, Chung Yuan Christian University, National Dong Hwa University, Soochow University, and National Taipei University of Business to host briefing sessions for the award on these campuses. Through these events, students were introduced to the vision of Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate of 2006, who is dedicated to the "3-Zero World " vision of Zero carbon emissions, Zero poverty, and Zero unemployment. The sessions aimed to encourage students to get involved in social innovation and entrepreneurship.
The executives and directors from various Yunus Social Business Centre (YSBC) at those universities also attended at the briefing sessions. Liu Jia-Wen, Executive Director of YSBC at National Taichung University of Science and Technology; Lee Ming-Yen, Executive Director of YSBC at Chung Yuan Christian University; Gu Yu-Chun, Director of YSBC at National Dong Hwa University; Wang Xiang-Xin and Ge Jun-You, Executive Director and Director respectively of YSBC at Soochow University; and Yen Yen-Zhen, Executive Director of YSBC at National Taipei University of Business, all affirmed the original intention of the Foundation in organizing the innovation award and encouraged students to participate actively. They emphasized that through the innovation award, students can not only unleash their creativity but also transform it into tangible social value. Additionally, two of the briefing sessions invited Li Ming-Dao, founder of LiFUNd, and Wang Yi-Hua, CEO of YinXiang, to share their entrepreneurial experiences and stories.
Tamkang University is also dedicated to Yunus social business innovation and entrepreneurship. At the invitation of Chen Chih-wei, Director of Department of Public Administration, representatives from the Foundation visited the university to introduce the Foundation and the award. Dean Yang Li-Ren of the College of Management specially delivered remarks, expressing anticipation for future collaborations with the Foundation in various fields to promote the development of social innovation. From the various briefing sessions for the award, Ms. Philippa Tsai, President of the Foundation stated that in past editions of the award, many promising young people have demonstrated creativity by using business models to address social issues. She looks forward to discovering more students in this edition who are courageous enough to establish social businesses, achieving a win-win situation for themselves and society. Ms. Juno Wang, CEO of the Foundation stated that Professor Yunus encourages universities to promote the vision of "3-Zero World" on campuses. Following the Yunus Camp in January 2024, Taiwan Yunus Social Business Innovation Award also provides a platform for students to showcase their talents in social innovation.
The deadline for submissions for the 4th Taiwan Yunus Social Business Award is on June 3. In order to help participating teams optimize their proposals, the Foundation is offering a series of training courses related to social business entrepreneurship. These courses include introductory sessions on business model design, essential financial concepts for entrepreneurship, and techniques for crafting entrepreneurial business plans, providing participants interested in innovation and entrepreneurship with more practical knowledge and skills.
