Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd. has won international recognition, claiming the Silver Class award of The Sustainability Yearbook 2022 for the ESG (environmental, social, governance) efforts.

(中央社訊息服務20220224 15:32:16)Global sustainability rating agency S&P Global ESG pressed release the latest edition of "The Sustainability Yearbook 2022." From over 7,500 corporations across the world rated, Taiwan Mobile was honored to win the "Silver Class" award for the fourth consecutive year in the Telecommunication Services category.

Taiwan Mobile prides itself on its outstanding ESG efforts, with its board of directors promising the complete use of renewable energy by 2040. Taiwan Mobile aims to reach the target through the purchase of green power and building electric plants for the " Net Zero " future. Taiwan Mobile officially completed the signing of a merger agreement with Taiwan Star Telecom Corporation Ltd. (T Star), and the biggest goals were to better integrate the 5G spectrum, a 3G network and thousands of redundant 4G base stations will be eliminated, and those changes along with TWM’s smart, energy-saving systems’ annual power savings will reach 100-200 million kWh, a substantial contribution to the mitigation of local electricity shortages.

In the performance of environmental sustainability, through the practice in science-based target setting, Taiwan Mobile estimated that it would see a decrease in scope 1 and 2 carbon emission by 30 percent, and a reduction of 15 percent in scope 3 in 2030 compared with a 2019 baseline. Taiwan Mobile has combined carbon emission management with information technology applications to develop an employee commute carbon footprint system, accurately measuring the carbon footprint of each employee’s commuting. The employee carbon emission from commuting decrease from 2.4 million kilograms of CO2e in 2020 to 1.65 million kilograms in 2021, declining over 31 percent. What's more, Taiwan Mobile completed carbon inventories for 137 suppliers and conducted on-site carbon emission audits for 12 suppliers, with an aim to achieve a 8 percent reduction in supply chain carbon emission by 2025, and a 20 percent by 2030 from the 2020 level.

In terms of social assistance, Taiwan Mobile increased its maternity subsidy from NT$3,000 to NT$60,000 and provide a further NT$10,000 of subsidy per year to an employee having children under the age of 6, meaning as much as NT$120,000 can be claimed per child. Meanwhile, female employee's paid maternity leave has been extended to 10 weeks from 8 weeks at Taiwan Mobile. Coupled with the existing 7 days of leave for prenatal examinations, the company offers a total of 77 days of paid leave of the entire pregnancy and postpartum leave.

To cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan Mobile has announced employee to work from home (WFH) since May 15, 2021, with up to 70 percent of the employees still working from home until early this year, to ensure the health of its staffs. Because of WFH , Taiwan Mobile saved 1.22 million kWh of electricity in 2021 compared with 2020, an equivalent of 614 metric tons of carbon emission. Taiwan Mobile also offered 45,000 free sim cards and crowd funded tablets to help students from remote areas keep up their schoolwork during the lockdown of the pandemic.

In corporate governance, Taiwan Mobile has actualized the highest level of internet security, gaining ISO 27701, BS 10012 and ISO 29100 certifications on the security of personal information by strengthening cyber security procedures and enhancing the management and protection of customers' privacy.
