(中央社訊息服務20210803 14:05:10)Taiwan Mobile Co., Ltd. announced a trilateral collaboration with MediaTek Inc. and Nokia Corporation on Aug. 3, under which Taiwan Mobile achieved the country's first New Radio Carrier Aggregation (NR CA) within a 5G Stand Alone (SA) network environment on a trial basis that leads the industry by aggregating spectrums of 700MHz (n28) and 3500MHz (n78) bands.

The aggregation of the lower frequency but higher penetration 700MHz band and the higher frequency and speedier 3500MHZ by Taiwan Mobile indicates a huge step towards a "real 5G" network service in this country.

"Once Taiwan Mobile finishes its first phase of medium frequency construction, it will start the second phase emphasizing Stand Alone (SA) and a lower frequency 5G network environment," Taiwan Mobile President Jaime Lin said.

"Since this technology is still one of the frontiers of the global 5G network development, we have decided to team up with MediaTek and Nokia, both of whom lead the world in 5G technologies," Lin said.

"This collaboration will push and realize the world-level 5G development in Taiwan, and Taiwan Mobile shall propel the advancement in autonomous driving, smart city and other Internet of Things applications to generate more diverse services and nurturing more start-ups across the country," he said.

Combining features of NR CA in SA means that 5G networks are better, stronger and faster, according to Tom Koh, senior vice president and chief technology officer of the Technology Group under Taiwan Mobile.

"This can increase coverage in range by around 35 percent and indoor coverage roughly by 30 percent. Under an SA environment, utilizing NR CA technology to aggregate different bands would also increase a single band's speed by another 30 percent," Koh said.

By aggregating the two frequencies, Taiwan Mobile can create synergy between different bands and provide better Internet efficiency, which can be further applied in both public and private networks when the technology eventually matures, he explained.
